Preparation of Patient:
Draw within 30 minutes of next dose.

Green Top 5mL Lithium Heparin Separator Tube
Or
Gold Top 6mL SST Gel & Clot Activator Tube

Plasma or Serum
Specimen Volume:
2.5 mL Plasma or Serum minimum .5 mL
Specimen Handling/Transport:
Separate plasma or serum from cells within 2 hours of collection.
Transport ambient room temperature or refrigerated 2 - 8°C.

8 hours ambient room temperature
48 hours refrigerated 2-8°C

Clinical Significance
Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic which has bacteriocidal activity against many gram positive and some gram negative cocci. It is useful in the treatment of severe staphylococcal infection.
