Methodology

Urinalysis Automated and Culture

Reflex Testing:

When any 2 or more of the following results are obtained, a culture will be performed:

WBC: > 10/hpf

Nitrite: positive

Leukocyte esterase: positive

Note: A urine culture will not be performed if 10 or more squamous epithelial cells/hpf are also observed.

Munson Medical Center Laboratories

Specimen must arrive within 4 hours of collection.

Submit >5 mL from a midstream, “clean-catch,” random urine collection. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated in a plastic urine container.

WBC: <4/hpf

Specific gravity: 1.003-1.035

pH: 5.0-8.0

Leukocyte esterase: negative

Nitrite: negative

Protein, qualitative: negative

Glucose: negative

Ketones: negative

Urobilinogen: <2 mg/dL

Bilirubin: negative

Blood: negative

Color: colorless or yellow

Clarity: clear

Monday through Sunday
