Test Code TIBC Iron and Total Iron-Binding Capacity, Plasma or Serum

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of draw.
 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Plasma

Container/Tube: Green-top (heparin) gel tube

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of heparinized plasma
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions:  Blood drawn after 12 p.m. may be decreased due to diurnal variation. Centrifuge tube within 1 hour of draw. Forward promptly.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma) when submitting an aliquot from the primary tube.


Serum
Container/Tube: Gold-top serum gel tube

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
