Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Pink-top (EDTA) tube
Specimen Volume: 3 mL of whole blood in pink-top tube
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions:. Collect only on office patients or outpatients not required to wear a hospital wristband. Verify patient identity using two identifiers prior to collection. Hand label legibly using indelible black ink or apply office EMR-generated label with patient’s full name and second patient identifier (birthdate or medical record number). Forward promptly.
Note: Do not transfer blood to other containers, submit in original collection tube.
Alternate:
Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube
Specimen Volume: 3 mL of blood in a red-top tube
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
