Interpretation:
The cut-off value discriminating between the presence and the absence of Treponema pallidum total antibodies has an Index value of 1.0.
- Samples with Treponema pallidum antibody levels < 0.90 Index should be graded Negative
- Samples with Treponema pallidum antibody levels ≥ 1.10 Index should be graded Positive
- Samples with Treponema pallidum antibody levels ≥ 0.90 Index and < 1.10 Index should be graded Equivocal and must be retested. Samples which are positive at the second test should be considered positive. Samples which are negative at the second test should be considered negative.
All positive (POS) and equivocal (EQ) results will be forwarded to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services laboratory for confirmatory testing at no charge.
