Methodology
Culture for Aeromonas, Campylobacter, Plesiomonas, Salmonella, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O157:H7, Shigella, Staph aureus, and Vibrio.Note: Culture for Yersinia is not included and must be orderd separately.

Specimen must arrive within 96 hours of collection.
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Duodenal Content
1. Submit 5 mL of duodenal content in Cary-Blair preservative vial or Stool Collection Kit.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), specimen source, and date and time of collection.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: 1. Specimen source is required.
2. Stool Collection Kit should be used if transport is >1 hour.
Rectal
1. Obtain specimen by inserting swab into rectum.
2. Label swab with patient’s name (first and last), specimen source, and date and time of collection.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: Specimen source is required.
Stool
1. Submit 5 mL of stool in Cary-Blair preservative vial or Stool Collection Kit.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), specimen source, and date and time of collection.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: 1. Specimen source is required.
2. Stool Collection Kit should be used if transport is >1 hour.
