Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 48 hours of collection.

1 g of stool.

Place stool  in a plain, screw-capped, sterile container without preservatives. The plain, empty container included in a Stool Collection Kit is also acceptable

Send refrigerated; forward promptly.

Note: 1. Stool collected in a container with preservative (e.g. Cary-Blair, polyvinyl alcohol and/or formalin) will be rejected.

2. If necessary, a specimen can be collected from a soiled diaper of young children and neonates.
