Clinical Significance
Helicobacter pylori is a gram negative rod that has evolved to be highly specialized for its ability to grow in the stomach. This organism evades the host’s immune response and targets the stomach mucosa. The H. pylori infection is contagious and passed from one person to another through saliva, fecal contamination and poor hygiene practices.
