Test Code HCVS Hepatitis C Antibody Screening

Important Note

This screening test should be used for patients who meet any of the following conditions:

  • Born in1945 through1965 (once per lifetime)
  • Received a blood transfusion prior to 1992 (once per lifetime)
  • Have a current or past history of injection drug use (may test annually with continued illicit use since the prior negative screen)

Methodology

Chemiluminometric Immunoassay

 

Reflex Testing: Specimens with  positive, weakly positive, or equivocal antibody results are forwarded to Mayo Clinic Laboratories for test HCVQN, Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) RNA Detection and Quantification by Real-Time Reverse Transcription, RT-PCR, Serum, and are billed separately.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Gold-top serum gel tube

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of serum

Transport Temperature: Refrigerate

Collection Instructions: Forward promptly.
