Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of draw.
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Container/Tube: Green-top (heparin) gel tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of heparinized plasma
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Plasma for a peak level should be drawn 30 minutes after completion of infusion of an intravenous dose or 30 to 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose of gentamicin. If specimen will not be analyzed within 24 hours, send specimen frozen in plastic vial.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Container/Tube: Gold-top serum gel tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
Collection Instructions: Serum for a peak level should be drawn 30 minutes after completion of infusion of an intravenous dose or 30 to 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose of gentamicin. If specimen will not be analyzed within 24 hours, send specimen frozen in plastic vial.
