Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of collection.
1 mL of spinal fluid in a screw-capped, sterile vial. Do not centrifuge. Send specimen refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Reference Values
NegativeNegative results indicate that enterovirus was not detected and does not rule out enterovirus as the cause of meningitis.
Positive results do not rule out other causes of meningitis, including bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi other viruses (eg, herpes family viruses, arboviruses, mumps virus, etc.)
