Clinical Significance
Erythropoietin (EPO) is a kidney-produced homrone that regulates red blood cell (RBC) production in response to low oxygen (hypoxia). Useful for determining anemia cause, diagnosis of blood disorders polycythemia vera or secondary polycythemia, monitoring kidney function, and detect misuse (blood doping) in athletes.
