Test Code COVIDA ABBOTT ID NOW COVID 19 TEST
Principle
This test is an automated assay that utilizes isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 viral nucleic acids in direct nasal, nasopharyngeal or throat swabs from individuals who are suspected of COVID-19 by their healthcare provider.
Methodology
Isothermal nucleic acid amplification
Performing Laboratory
Munson Health System Laboratories
Specimen Requirements
Dry swab without elution in viral transport media. Acceptable swabs, sterile rayon, foam, polyester or flocked flexible-shaft nasopharyngeal swabs.
Specimen storage:
Room Temperature: 2 Hours
Refrigerated (2-8 C): 24 Hours
Interference: Bloody swabs
- If a bloody dry swab is submitted for COVIDA it will be placed in saline or VTM
- COVIDA will be cancelled and the Cepheid Test will be run
Reference Values
Negative or Positive

Interpretation |
Result Code |
Other Notes |
Positive |
COVID 19 Positive |
POS |
Positive results do not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses |
Negative |
CoVid 19 Negative |
NEG |
Negative results should be treated as presumptive and, if inconsistent with clinical signs and symptoms or necessary for patient management, should be tested with an alternative molecular assay. |
Invalid |
Unable to determine result Repeat testing of the sample using a different test platform (Cepheid) |
N/A |
If Invalid results are obtained, test should be run by another method. |
