Clinical Significance
Chloride is one of the four ions commonly measured in serum. Like sodium, it is largely limited to extra-cellular fluids. Chloride is decreased in protracted vomiting, chromic diarrhea, diabetic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis, adrenal disease and renal failure. It increase hyperventilation and dehydration.
