Clinical Significance
Increases in alkaline phosphatase activity are largely limited to diseases of two organs: bone and liver. The increase in ALP in bone disease has been related to an increase in osteoblast activity. The increase in liver disease has been related to obstruction of the ducts which bile is discharged into the small intestine.
