Reference Values
A “positive” varicella IgG test result on a single specimen generally indicates a previous exposure to the virus (natural or vaccine), and the patient is presumed to be immune. A “positive” test result may also indicate a current infection or passively acquired varicella antibody resulting from the recent receipt of blood products containing plasma. A “negative” result presumes non-immunity. For “equivocal” results, another specimen should be tested in 10-14 days.
